Scholarships
Scholarship Terms and Conditions

The following terms and conditions apply to students awarded with a scholarship to go to study abroad at the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research's expense:

  • A scholar must be a UAE national.
  • A scholar must be of good conduct.
  • A scholar must have the General Secondary Certificate or its equivalent with 80% for both Science and Arts streams and 90% for those who wishing to study medical sciences. In the event where there are many applicants, the highest average shall be taken into account with a Common Educational Proficiency Assessment (CEPA) average of at least 150.
  • A scholar wishing to continue to Masters and Doctorate Degrees must hold a Bachelors degree with a minimum overall grade of "Good".
  • Academic degrees obtained prior to the respective study stage must be authenticated as soon as they are awarded by overseas universities or academic institutions inside the UAE.
  • A scholar must obtain a preliminary approval for a sabbatical leave from his/her place of work once s/he is granted a scholarship.
  • A scholar must enroll in full-time study.
  • A specialization required to be studied must be among those specified by the Ministry on annual basis, such as (medical sciences, engineering sciences, genetics, and environmental sciences).
  • Scholarships are restricted to the countries specified by the Ministry.
  • Students' parent consent is obligatory.
Abu Dhabi Education Council Scholarships

The scholarship is designed to support students who have excelled in their high school education with financial support to pursue degrees in electronic engineering, aerospace engineering, architecture, mechanical engineering, material sciences, economics, accounting, finance and medicine.

The scholarship programme targets UAE national student who have scored 85 percent and above on their General Secondary Certificate or its equivalent at private schools. The scholarship also welcomes application from students who are already majoring in the mentioned subjects at the university, and who have completed 30 credit hours while maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Students selected for the scholarship join internationally-accredited institutions within the UAE and benefit from full financial support including payment of university tuition in addition to a monthly allowance.

Transportation Scholarships

The Transportation Scholarship is jointly offered by Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and the Department of Transport (DoT) in transportation-related disciplines.

Part of an MoU signed between ADEC and DoT, the programme provides 40 outstanding UAE national students with scholarships in Bachelor's degree in Transportation Engineering and Master's degrees in Transportation Management and Planning at Abu Dhabi Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). The first of its kind in the Middle East, the 4-year programme also includes internship and employment opportunities at DoT.

Urban Planning Engineering Scholarship

A number of scholarships are provided by the Abu Dhabi Education Council to the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) where ADEC sponsors UAE national students to do their Bachelor's and Master programme in various disciplines of urban planning. UPC offers students an internship during their four-year study and a job opportunity after graduation.

Education Leadership Scholarship

ADEC offers UAE nationals who have two years of experience in the field of education or teaching a scholarship programme in educational leadership.

The holders of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3 are eligible for Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from universities in the USA, the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

University Scholarships

A number of UAE's top-ranked universities also provide scholarships for qualified UAE nationals and a number of expatriate students. Scholarships can be sought by visiting the official websites of the universities. Some of the distinguished scholarships, include but are not limited to, Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Environmental Scholarships at Abu Dhabi University and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Programme for Postgraduate Studies (Buhooth) at Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research.
